WEBVTT
00:00:00.059 --> 00:00:03.290
Welcome back to another episode of Electricpreneur Secrets Radio.
00:00:03.290 --> 00:00:14.569
I'm here with Joseph Lucani, my co-host and partner, of course, and we're here to help you master your sales, simplify your pricing and deliver consistent, premium level service.
00:00:14.569 --> 00:00:16.545
Joseph, what are we talking about today?
00:00:17.160 --> 00:00:26.685
We actually got a fun one, and what it is is the concept of are you using your time driving to the job you're going to effectively?
00:00:26.685 --> 00:00:34.926
Now, what I mean by that is when you're on the road going to that call, are you setting yourself up for success?
00:00:34.926 --> 00:00:43.472
Are you doing steps that are likely to get you the job, or are you doing activities that are subconsciously taking you away from closing it?
00:00:43.472 --> 00:00:45.707
And we're going to go into the secrets and subconscious of that.
00:00:46.308 --> 00:00:46.750
Great one.
00:00:46.750 --> 00:00:53.828
I'm particularly passionate about this as I've made use of that time a lot, so looking forward to chatting through this.
00:00:53.828 --> 00:00:56.088
How did you make the best use of it?
00:00:57.301 --> 00:01:06.450
So realistically, what I found was that every single one of us has anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes from one call to the next.
00:01:06.450 --> 00:01:11.432
Right Now, what were we doing during those calls?
00:01:11.432 --> 00:01:23.700
I mean, before I got into this process it was powering out a cigarette or wolfing down gas station food or blasting loud music or calling a friend to complain about how bad the last call was.
00:01:23.700 --> 00:01:27.670
Any of those activities sound like they're moving the needle further.
00:01:28.251 --> 00:01:36.790
No, ultimately showing up smelling like smoke, some subway sauce on your face and a poor attitude because your friends said something you didn't like.
00:01:36.829 --> 00:01:38.626
Maybe Exactly right.
00:01:38.626 --> 00:01:44.253
So instead of going in looking like a 10, we're already doing things that make us look worse.
00:01:44.253 --> 00:01:58.233
The thing is that we have to always be mindful of is that when we show up and that's actually why we have the pre-arrival process in place when we show up into the customer's driveway, that is when the presentation actually starts.
00:01:58.233 --> 00:02:00.326
It doesn't start when you're ringing the bell.
00:02:00.326 --> 00:02:04.951
It starts the moment you step out of your van onto their driveway.
00:02:04.951 --> 00:02:09.105
Assume that they're watching you from the window, assume they're watching you from the camera.
00:02:09.105 --> 00:02:14.271
Are you positioning yourself and preparing yourself mentally to succeed on this call?
00:02:14.271 --> 00:02:18.931
And if you did the things I said previously, you're not.
00:02:20.081 --> 00:02:24.500
So what I did was I chose that every trip time.
00:02:24.500 --> 00:02:27.788
It didn't matter where I was going, it didn't matter if I was driving across the street.
00:02:27.788 --> 00:02:30.467
Trip time is training time.
00:02:30.467 --> 00:02:44.866
What I did was I would download any kind of training videos I had the many mentors I was working with, any type of sales classes, any books, any podcasts, anything that I could put onto an MP3 player.
00:02:44.866 --> 00:02:48.233
I put onto an MP3 player and I would just play in my van.
00:02:48.233 --> 00:02:53.500
I automatically had the aux cord connected to it so that the moment the van would start.
00:02:53.500 --> 00:03:03.030
The iPad would turn on or the iPod, dayton myself would turn on, and then from there it would just start automatically going into training material.
00:03:03.030 --> 00:03:20.252
So the question I have for you to play is if, every single minute you were in the van driving from one job to the other, you were listening to training material that helped you close jobs or helped you learn how to better do the jobs, would that help you or hurt you between the calls?
00:03:21.301 --> 00:03:24.349
Wait, do you mean training like this, like this podcast?
00:03:24.349 --> 00:03:26.385
Like literally they're five days a week.
00:03:26.385 --> 00:03:30.146
Two help electricians do exactly that Big surprise, right?
00:03:30.146 --> 00:03:31.829
I think it's a game changer.
00:03:31.829 --> 00:03:43.447
Personally, and that's why we're here, because I think both of us have this in common I was always listening to a podcast If I didn't have anything fresh on deck.
00:03:43.447 --> 00:03:51.449
Honestly, I would re-listen to my favorite books, presentations, podcasts, to further drive those points home.
00:03:51.449 --> 00:03:55.610
But also, as they say, when the student's ready, the teacher appears.
00:03:55.610 --> 00:04:08.877
And what that means to me is that I can read the same book four times and get different things every time because of where I'm at with my level of expertise at that time, where I'm at as a student in life at that time.
00:04:08.877 --> 00:04:14.459
I know that was a bigger answer than you asked for, but man, like I said, I'm pretty passionate about this stuff.
00:04:15.210 --> 00:04:16.095
I know, and you're right.
00:04:16.095 --> 00:04:18.690
It's one of those reasons why we're here Now.
00:04:18.690 --> 00:04:24.858
In addition to that, you know, especially with podcasts like this, we're gonna be doing role-playing and whatnot on our own.
00:04:24.858 --> 00:04:26.834
What do you think would be helpful?
00:04:26.834 --> 00:04:34.499
If the people listening to this got to hear what an effective presentation was supposed to sound like before they went to every single call, of course.
00:04:34.499 --> 00:04:55.516
So what I would do was I would actually record myself doing presentations, whether it was dry runs or actual, really recorded presentations, and the ones that went well, I would listen to over and over and over and over again, because if you can make something happen by accident, you can make something happen on purpose.
00:04:55.516 --> 00:04:57.413
That's the ultimate goal.
00:04:57.413 --> 00:05:04.976
But if you have a process, you know what you did right so you can replicate it for the future.
00:05:05.559 --> 00:05:11.355
I love that If something can happen by accident, it can happen on purpose.
00:05:12.158 --> 00:05:12.499
Correct.
00:05:12.499 --> 00:05:16.000
It's just figuring out what part of the process went right.
00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:18.595
So that's.
00:05:18.595 --> 00:05:22.117
I don't know if you could tell I'm gonna keep saying the word process over and over and over again.
00:05:22.117 --> 00:05:25.194
It's just the autism to me is just saying it's the way to work.
00:05:25.194 --> 00:05:41.697
It's the way to if you have something that tells you the moment I show up to the door this is what I'm supposed to do, and then ringing the bell, and then walking to the pile and like, wherever you are, I know, step by step by step, where I'm supposed to be, that reversal will help you.
00:05:41.697 --> 00:05:52.394
Because if you take every single call that you're going to and you're driven by basis, do you feel like you would take less time to make it autopilot than if you didn't?
00:05:53.430 --> 00:05:53.911
Absolutely.
00:05:53.911 --> 00:05:56.495
Now it'll become second nature.
00:05:57.694 --> 00:05:58.377
And that's the thing.
00:05:58.377 --> 00:06:05.536
That's what we're trying to push for, guys, because if we can make this process second nature, you don't have to work so hard.
00:06:05.536 --> 00:06:11.173
You can just show up to the job and slip into autopilot and slip into sales mode if you would and you're good to go.
00:06:11.173 --> 00:06:17.098
But the only way you'll get good enough to go into autopilot is the constant exposure.
00:06:17.098 --> 00:06:20.737
It needs to always be in your ear dripping at some point.
00:06:20.737 --> 00:06:27.557
If it's not, the well dries up, and it's always important to dig the well before you're thirsty.
00:06:28.689 --> 00:06:40.714
So for anyone who's listening to this, it might be your busy season, it might be your slow season, but I'm insisting that you always train as if it's slow season.
00:06:40.714 --> 00:06:42.432
I don't care if it's.
00:06:42.432 --> 00:06:45.334
You got five calls of people who are trying to book with you today.
00:06:45.334 --> 00:06:53.274
November is gonna come, december is gonna come, christmas is gonna come, tax season is gonna come, recessions are gonna come.
00:06:53.274 --> 00:06:54.177
It doesn't matter.
00:06:54.177 --> 00:06:57.875
Something's going to happen and you're gonna have to be divided between.
00:06:57.875 --> 00:07:03.742
I was prepared and did everything I could to close this, and you know what?
00:07:03.742 --> 00:07:06.096
I just really wanted to listen to Adele on repeat.
00:07:07.110 --> 00:07:08.795
It's like which one are you trying to do, man?
00:07:08.795 --> 00:07:11.538
Are you trying to succeed or are you trying to relax?
00:07:12.949 --> 00:07:13.973
For sure, I love that.
00:07:13.973 --> 00:07:14.396
I love that.
00:07:14.396 --> 00:07:15.452
Is it fair to say?
00:07:15.452 --> 00:07:16.838
Then you're not actually a robot.
00:07:18.230 --> 00:07:20.478
I mean like I haven't opened myself up.
00:07:20.478 --> 00:07:25.843
So I'm gonna say that there is more biology than circuitry.
00:07:26.350 --> 00:07:27.052
All right, all right.
00:07:27.052 --> 00:07:35.874
So most of this is repetition, but you've come to master this from practice.
00:07:37.404 --> 00:07:40.233
There's nothing special about me per se.
00:07:40.233 --> 00:07:44.134
I'm not some biological superhero or anything like that.
00:07:44.134 --> 00:07:53.129
I have the same abilities that every one of you guys have, but my why forced me to get better at the process.
00:07:53.129 --> 00:07:56.752
I could not proceed otherwise without it.
00:07:56.752 --> 00:08:07.771
I didn't have the ability of leaning into charisma or social skills, or I had to get good at this or I would not survive.
00:08:07.771 --> 00:08:16.533
And through that constant repetition I got really good, and my goal is to teach you guys the exact same stuff that made me better.
00:08:16.533 --> 00:08:19.913
So, if anything, I'm the floor.
00:08:19.913 --> 00:08:22.511
I want everyone that I train to be better than me.
00:08:22.511 --> 00:08:25.891
So yeah, I wasn't always good.
00:08:27.468 --> 00:08:32.875
Yeah, I appreciate that and we're going to get deeper into your story and cover a lot of those tracks as well.
00:08:32.875 --> 00:08:36.514
But on this one, guys definitely hear what Joseph's saying.
00:08:36.514 --> 00:08:41.734
It's a big difference maker and I think that a lot of people get this one a little sideways.
00:08:41.734 --> 00:08:43.610
So I want to throw this in there as well.
00:08:43.610 --> 00:08:46.032
You're not listening to take everything.
00:08:46.032 --> 00:08:50.095
Some people get frustrated by audio recordings, podcasts, books, etc.
00:08:50.095 --> 00:08:56.212
Likely not you if you're listening to this, but maybe it's your first time and maybe you're feeling that way.
00:08:57.245 --> 00:09:00.187
Don't focus on trying to get everything, just like when you read a book.
00:09:00.187 --> 00:09:03.534
You only have the time and the attention span that you have.
00:09:03.534 --> 00:09:17.068
Go with the flow, take what stands out and just know that you can always circle back and come get some more, just having that little memory implanted to say, wow, I know there was an episode that could help me with this.
00:09:17.068 --> 00:09:24.572
I know there was something I heard before that resonated truly with today and I can go back and grab that one again.
00:09:24.572 --> 00:09:25.846
And what's that?
00:09:25.846 --> 00:09:27.373
One thing I'm going to take from today.
00:09:27.373 --> 00:09:37.168
And sometimes you get two or three, sometimes it's just connecting that well, but look for the one thing, in fact in every interaction.
00:09:37.168 --> 00:09:45.291
Isn't that a great rule for life and being a student being open minded and, in every interaction, looking for the one thing.
00:09:45.291 --> 00:09:47.677
What am I taking from this engagement?
00:09:47.677 --> 00:09:50.192
What does this person have to teach me?
00:09:51.284 --> 00:09:51.666
What does this?
00:09:51.686 --> 00:09:53.272
situation have to teach me.
00:09:54.547 --> 00:09:56.833
Do you either learning or living?
00:09:56.833 --> 00:09:59.011
You're either winning or learning.
00:09:59.011 --> 00:10:08.554
Those are the two other options, but something actually came to mind that I wanted to kind of add to, because you said you can listen to this two, three, four, five times and take something different.
00:10:08.554 --> 00:10:21.091
I heard an expression from someone by the name of Noah Ben Shia years and years ago, and he said a man never puts his foot in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and it's not the same man.
00:10:21.091 --> 00:10:28.466
So you could listen to a training once, like today, and be the person you are and take something away from it.
00:10:28.466 --> 00:10:44.149
You could listen to it a year from now and, through your trials, experiences and successes or failures, you could be a different person listening to something, a person more willing to be receptive to learning and growing, someone who's in an emotional place, who can receive training.
00:10:46.075 --> 00:10:48.734
That's a point 100% Okay.
00:10:48.754 --> 00:10:56.578
so what's the action someone can take on this to start making a difference, having bigger results, having an impact on their future?
00:10:57.669 --> 00:11:02.389
So if they were going to say, like there's two actions, there's like the minimum action and there's the all-star action.
00:11:02.389 --> 00:11:17.537
But I would say, what if the minimum level action if you're saying I want to do this, do you even have material loaded Right Doesn't mean that you're even doing it, but do you at least have the material that you could listen to?
00:11:17.537 --> 00:11:19.621
Is there a podcast that you follow?
00:11:19.621 --> 00:11:22.142
Is there a training documents that you can download?
00:11:22.142 --> 00:11:25.956
Is there someone you're willing to listen to for 20 to 30 minutes?
00:11:25.956 --> 00:11:28.360
That would make your life better as a result of it.
00:11:29.029 --> 00:11:34.090
The bare minimum action is at least gather that stuff, put it on a flash drive, throw it in your van.
00:11:34.090 --> 00:11:44.760
Even if you never used it, it's at least ready for you for when you decide you want to step up the all-star action if you're really trying to take results and see something successful.
00:11:44.760 --> 00:11:57.982
Today, you've not only had that action taken care of, but you're going to commit to yourself that every training or every travel that takes more than 10 minutes is going to be training time.
00:11:57.982 --> 00:12:06.993
I literally made my van so that the moment it would turn on, the blue playlist would automatically come on.
00:12:06.993 --> 00:12:08.977
It had to happen.
00:12:08.977 --> 00:12:13.996
Did another one drive in my personal car or my work van Travel is training time.
00:12:13.996 --> 00:12:16.221
Commit to that and you will be successful.
00:12:17.490 --> 00:12:18.552
I agree 100%.
00:12:18.552 --> 00:12:23.509
Going a notch above would be the next time you're pulled over.
00:12:23.509 --> 00:12:27.158
When you stop, take the note, write down that nugget, take action with that.
00:12:27.158 --> 00:12:28.942
Learn, do teach, learn, do teach.
00:12:28.942 --> 00:12:32.219
But I agree 100% and wholeheartedly.
00:12:32.219 --> 00:12:47.880
And I've got to say just to cap this off many times when I'm not quite feeling 110%, listening to that content, listening to some of my favorites that I've bookmarked, can pull me back out of that and put me back in the races.
00:12:47.880 --> 00:12:56.456
I can succeed the rest of the day at a high level where confidence was dwindling before about that even being an opportunity.
00:12:57.451 --> 00:12:58.013
Exactly.
00:12:58.013 --> 00:13:09.179
I mean, you're in a situation that a lot of us have been in, where you can take something away that's a little bit different from it, because maybe the first call got flubbed, maybe it was a great call, right.
00:13:09.179 --> 00:13:10.729
I mean it can happen one way or the other.
00:13:10.729 --> 00:13:15.350
Have you ever had that morning call that didn't go well and threw you off for the rest of the day?
00:13:15.350 --> 00:13:21.974
Some people have the opposite effect, where you'll have a great call the first one, and you think I already made my numbers.
00:13:21.974 --> 00:13:24.059
I don't have to do so well on next.
00:13:24.059 --> 00:13:33.357
So, whether you're the first or the second person, always remember that this process is something you can consistently measure yourself against.
00:13:33.357 --> 00:13:42.371
So either listen to yourself doing your presentations, listening to someone better than you doing the presentations, or listen to constant material.
00:13:42.371 --> 00:13:45.480
That's making you better and you will be better as a result.
00:13:46.629 --> 00:13:47.794
Love that, love that.
00:13:47.794 --> 00:13:50.225
Okay, guys, so you've got the action items.
00:13:50.225 --> 00:13:52.355
Take action if you want to see those results.
00:13:52.355 --> 00:13:53.903
That's the way this works.
00:13:53.903 --> 00:14:06.431
We're going to continue to show up for you five days a week, monday through Friday, always at the same time with some great nuggets for you to take away from this hopefully one or two or more and those action items to take.
00:14:06.431 --> 00:14:08.014
So thank you for joining us.
00:14:08.014 --> 00:14:13.572
We're here to help you master sales, simplify pricing and deliver consistent, premium level service.
00:14:13.572 --> 00:14:14.972
We'll see you again tomorrow.
